When your home no longer fits your life

Some homes seem to have everything.
Generous proportions. Beautiful materials. Carefully chosen furniture. And yet, the people who live there often feel that something no longer works, even if they can't quite explain why.
Some believe they simply need more space. Others start considering a move, or hope that a new colour palette and updated décor will restore the sense of comfort they once enjoyed.
But what if the real change isn't about the walls themselves, but about the way we now live within them?
As life evolves, so do we.
Families grow. Children become teenagers. Working from home becomes part of everyday life. New routines appear while old ones quietly disappear. Often, these changes happen so gradually that we barely notice them.
Our homes, however, tend to stay exactly as they were.
This is the disconnect I encounter in many of my first consultations.
Clients usually arrive with practical requests: opening up a kitchen, creating more storage, introducing a home office or renovating a bathroom.
Yet beneath those requests often lies a very different question.
How can our home truly support the way we live today?
Interior architecture is never just about reconfiguring layouts or selecting beautiful finishes. It begins with observation, careful listening and understanding how a home is actually lived in.
How do people naturally move through the space? Where does the family instinctively gather? Which rooms are rarely used? Which everyday habits have slowly become daily frustrations?
These details often go unnoticed by those who have lived in a home for years.
But they reveal far more than a floor plan.
They reveal a way of living.
And that is often the moment when a project takes an unexpected direction.
A room that once felt too small suddenly reveals untapped potential. A reimagined circulation transforms the entire perception of space. A bespoke solution answers several needs at once, avoiding the extensive works the clients initially thought were necessary.
The most successful transformations are rarely the most spectacular.
They are the ones that simply make everything feel right.
I've always believed that a successful project isn't designed to impress.
It's designed to feel right.
Right for a family.
Right for their pace of life.
Right for the unique way they choose to live.
Because a home is never truly static. It evolves with the people who call it home.
Perhaps that's the clearest sign that it's time to rethink your interior—not when your home feels outdated, but when it no longer reflects the life you live today.
